USSR 太空时代雕塑《通往星辰之路》— NIMOR — 苏联太空竞赛寓言 — 1960年代–1980年代

A striking original Soviet decorative sculpture entitled “The Way to the Stars”, created in the artistic spirit of the USSR Space Age and the broader visual culture of the Space Race. The composition depicts a male figure in a dramatic upward and forward-reaching movement, extending one arm toward the sky while holding a torch-like element. The pose creates a powerful sense of ascent, flight and aspiration, immediately evoking the Soviet fascination with technological progress, aviation and the conquest of space. The figure appears almost weightless, as if suspended in motion. The flowing drapery and strongly elongated gesture reinforce this impression, recalling the visual language of mid-20th-century Soviet monumental and decorative art, where the human body was frequently used as a symbol of progress, courage and movement toward the future. Although the sculpture does not depict a specific cosmonaut, it can be interpreted as an allegorical image of the Soviet space pioneer — a generalized figure representing humanity reaching beyond earthly limits. The title “The Way to the Stars” perfectly reflects the ideological and artistic atmosphere of the period, when space exploration became one of the most important symbols of Soviet scientific and technological achievement. Manufacturer / Marking The underside bears the original “НИМОР” (NIMOR) trademark. NIMOR was a Soviet trademark associated with decorative and consumer goods produced at the Black Sea Shipyard / Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Plant in Nikolaev, Ukrainian SSR. In addition to its major industrial shipbuilding activities, the enterprise produced various decorative objects and small sculptural works in metal. The presence of the original NIMOR mark is an important identifying feature confirming the Soviet manufacture and origin of the sculpture. The underside also retains a Soviet retail price marking, another characteristic period detail. Material & Technique Cast copper alloy / brass with bronze-toned finish and naturally developed vintage patina. The surface shows the characteristic appearance of an authentic Soviet-era decorative metal sculpture, with age-related variations in tone and patination. Origin USSR Period Circa 1960s–1980s Soviet Space Race / Space Age period Dimensions Height: approx. 24 cm Condition Good vintage condition with natural traces of age and use. The surface retains an attractive authentic patina consistent with its age. Please carefully examine all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description. Historical Context During the Space Race, Soviet art frequently transformed the human figure into a symbol of technological progress, scientific optimism and humanity’s movement toward the unknown. Rather than always depicting specific cosmonauts, artists often created idealized allegorical figures representing flight, exploration and the future. This sculpture is a particularly expressive example of that artistic language. The upward-reaching gesture, dynamic posture and sense of weightlessness strongly reflect the atmosphere of an era shaped by Sputnik, human spaceflight and the dream of reaching the stars.
