WWI French Machine Gun Clinometer, Mle 1918, a compact brass artillery and machine-gun sighting instrument used for measuring elevation and angle when setting up sustained or indirect fire. The instrument features a finely graduated adjustment dial, vertical scale marked from 0 to 400, hinged mechanism, and engraved directional arrows. Marked to the base “Mle 1918 – MAS” with serial/issue markings, indicating manufacture at the French government arsenal Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne. The brass body retains an attractive aged patina with surface wear, oxidation, and verdigris consistent with military field use and age. An evocative and uncommon piece of First World War French military equipment. Length: 9 cm.
