Northeast Africa 145 (NEA 145) Libya Purchased: 2024 Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: Reportedly found in Libya by meteorite hunters in 2024 and purchased by Ali Muftah. Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Olivine basalt, dominated by elongated pyroxene grains up to 3.5 mm (~50%) with smaller amounts of olivine (~25%) and interstitial plagioclase (~25%). Olivine grains display igneous zoning with increasing Fe concentrations from core to rim. Pyroxene shows a patchy chemical zoning. Plagioclase has been completely shock-transformed to maskelynite.
