He studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and later traveled to France, where he was influenced by modern European art. After returning to Japan, he contributed significantly to the introduction of contemporary Western painting styles. His works are characterized by bold colors, strong compositions, and expressive brushwork. Kojima Zenzaburo is regarded as an important figure in modern Japanese oil painting. Kazumasa Nakagawa (1893–1991) was a Japanese painter and essayist, active throughout the 20th century. Largely self-taught, he developed a highly personal style independent of academic schools. He is best known for his powerful still lifes, portraits, and landscapes, painted with bold colors and vigorous brushwork. Nakagawa was also an influential art critic and writer, shaping modern Japanese art discourse.
