The screen is made of wood and finished with a black lacquer surface. At its centre is a bold, circular motif. The circle represents an ensō — a Zen symbol signifying enlightenment, strength, elegance, and the universe. The act of painting an ensō is considered a spiritual practice in itself, expressing the moment when the mind is free to let the body create. Beneath the circle is the inscription “HI,” which symbolises hi (日) — meaning "sun" in Japanese — likely referring to the Japanese flag (the Hinomaru), reinforcing themes of light, vitality, and national identity. When folded, the screen measures approximately 70 cm wide. The hinged panels allow it to be easily collapsed and stored. Minor blemishes from age are present, including a small chip to the lacquer on one corner. Please refer to the photos for details of the condition. Dimensions: approx.
