Høj handlerens dokumentskab (帳場箪笥, chôba’dansu) - Sugi (cedar) træ, Kiri (paulownia) træ - Japan - Meiji-perioden (1868-1912)

A tall and attractive wooden chôba’dansu 帳場箪笥 (merchant’s document cabinet) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed. The cabinet is constructed with a frame of indigenous sugi 杉 (cedar) wood and drawer fronts of kiri 桐 (paulownia) wood, finished in a warm brown tone, a colour we like to refer to as “golden oak”. The upper section is fitted with a pair of sliding doors featuring dark brown burl wood panels and thumb grips with an undulating rim. Below are five drawers of varying sizes. The lower section is configured with eight drawers, also in varying sizes. The smooth-running drawers are fitted with iron hirute-shaped bail handles set on oval escutcheons and paired with large circular lock plates adorned with raised chrysanthemum-shaped knobs. The sides are equipped with rectangular pole-carrying handles as well as warabite-shaped transport handles. Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868–1912) Dimensions: Height 161 cm (T 57.8 cm, B 103.4 cm), Width 89.8 cm, Depth 41.1 cm. The chôba’dansu is in very good restored condition, with minimal signs of wear consistent with age. No keys included. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference. When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity. Please note: Due to the holidays, shipping and handling times may be longer. Thank you for your understanding.
