General description: This unsigned (mumei) wakizashi is mounted in a natural wood shirasaya, featuring a traditionally forged tamahagane steel blade. The hamon displays a clear notare-gunome pattern, with wide, undulating waves flowing gracefully along the edge. The steel grain (hada) reveals a refined itame-hada, showing distinct activity under light, especially near the cutting edge (ha). The boshi remains clearly visible, rounded in komaru style, typical of Edo-period workmanship, though certain traits of the steel and curvature could suggest an earlier origin. The nakago shows an aged, dark patina with a single mekugi-ana, confirming authenticity and historical age. The blade retains much of its polish, with minor oxidation consistent with a centuries-old piece. Despite age, the hamon activity and steel texture remain well defined, reflecting skilled craftsmanship. Its simple shirasaya mount provides optimal preservation and aesthetic sobriety, emphasizing the inherent beauty of the steel and its historical significance.
