Det gamle Kina, Tang-dynastiet Tang-dynastiets røde keramikhest keramik - 15 cm
Description:
Tang dynasty red pottery horse and rider figurine, modeled in a sturdy form with simplified rider details. The reddish clay body retains traces of red and white pigments, with areas of natural burial encrustation and weathering, giving it an authentic ancient appearance. Such red pottery figures were commonly used as tomb furnishings during the Tang period, valued for their simplicity. They differ markedly from the more elaborate Tang sancai horses: the red pottery figures were painted with mineral pigments directly on the clay surface, prone to flaking over time, while sancai horses were coated with vibrant lead-glaze in flowing colors, reserved for higher-status burials. This example, with surviving pigment traces and natural soil accretions, stands as a genuine and characteristic piece of Tang funerary pottery.
