Thirty Views of Kyoto - Distant View of Mt. Atago 京洛三十題 愛宕 - Tomikichirō Tokuriki 徳力富吉郎 (1902-2000) - Japan

We cannot ship to the USA due to suspension of the postal services from Malta. (Please read below). In 1936 Mr. Tokuriki issued an exclusive box of thirty woodblock prints depicting differerent views of Kyoto. These prints were fixed on boards (shikishiban), a techique which was used regularly before the war. The board allow the print to be easily framed without waving of the paper along the edges of the mount. This technique is not used anymore in modern days. Mount Atago (愛宕山, Atago-yama/san) is a 924m mountain in the northwestern part of Ukyo-ku, in the city of Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The Atago Shrine is located on the top of the mountain. (source: wikipedia) Tomikichiro Tokuriki was a modern Japanese woodblock printmaker. He represented the 12th generation of a Kyoto artisan family designated as the official Kyoto print artists for the famous Honganji Temple. He graduated from Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting in 1924. After World War II, he established the Matsukyu Publishing Company to produce and distribute his own prints and other Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga pieces. Tomikichiro Tokuriki was an influential figure in Japan's contemporary print movement. He was the official artist of the Honganji Temple, and his work has been commissioned for various temples throughout Japan, including the famous shrines at Ise. His prints are in the permanent collections of the Museum Fine Arts Boston and the Museum of Modern Art New York. The paper and cardboard of this print is in very good condition. But several foxing stains are showing. As such, we rate it as fair condition overall. Due to the introduction of the import tariff system in 2025, Maltapost has suspended all postal services to the USA until further notice. If you live in the USA, you will need to give an alternative address outside of the USA for shipments. Otherwise, please refrain from bidding.
