Naruto of Awa 阿波の鳴内 - Limited Edition 100 pieces - Saburo Miyata 宮田三郎 - Japan

We cannot ship to the USA due to suspension of the postal services from Malta. (Please read below). This colorful print, called Naruto of Awa is by the popular artist Saburo Miyata. It is part of his Japanese Landscape series, which took Miyata 18 years to research and complete. Naruto is a narrow strait between the south-west end of Awaji Island and the north-east end of Shikoku, 1,300m. in width, connecting the Inland Sea and the Pacific. At ebb and flow tides the currents rush through this narrow passage with enormous speed, sometimes more than 20km. per hour, due to difference in water levels, creating hundreds of large and small whirlpools (diameters 15-230m.) with thundering roar. It is astonishing how recognizable Miyata could make the subjects of his prints even when simplifying the colors and shapes, an incredible talent. Miyata's prints are very recognizable, as he created a unique style in which he eliminated details and used colors and shapes in their most simple forms to create a vibrant but still very recognizable image of reality. Saburo Miyata was born in Nagano prefecture, but workied mainly in Tokyo. He founded the Tokyo Print Research Institute in Tokyo. Miyata has had 250 solo exhibitions of his work as well as many publications. This specific print has never been framed, and is in excellent condition. It has never been framed and always stored in a dark place. Due to the large size of the print, it will be shipped in a tube. This allows for drastically reduced postage costs. Due to the introduction of the import tariff system in 2025, Maltapost has suspended all postal services to the USA until further notice. If you live in the USA, you will need to give an alternative address outside of the USA for shipments. Otherwise, please refrain from bidding.
