Rolex Trench Watch – WWI Era, Swiss Made Mechanical Timepiece in a very Good Aesthetic Condition. A rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of history. This Rolex trench watch, dating back to the First World War (1915), is an exceptional find—a silent witness to a world-changing era. Every detail tells a story. Ceramic enamel dial in excellent condition, featuring bold black Roman numerals for the 12-hour format (Twelve in red). The dial is in excellent condition without signs or scratches and lines. Solid 925 silver case, with the following hallmarks: - SWISS - Rolex - .925 : the quality of sterling silver used for the case - The zodiac symbol of Leo used by the London Assay Office on imported items - u : hallmark date letter indicating the year 1915/1916 - W&D : This W&D in an oval surround with points top and bottom is the sponsor's mark of Wilsdorf & Davis, importers of gold and silver wares, first registered at the London Assay Office on 25 June 1907. A second punch with the same mark was registered on 13 August. The company of Wilsdorf & Davis is better known these days by a brand name that Wilsdorf created in 1908: Rolex. - Reference number: 682614 Movement: Aegler Rebberg Movement. Aegler supplied Rebberg movements to Wilsdorf & Davis. All the silver cases that are seen with Rebberg movements, and gold cases until 1915, were made in Switzerland. The movement is stopped even when wound; if shaken in a rotary motion, the balance wheel begins to move correctly but then stops again, a sign that the watch has been inactive for many years and requires a thorough service at Rolex or by a watchmaker familiar with this type of movement.
