Ryukyu Hibiscus-mon Chūnatsume 琉球 ハイビスカス文中棗(りゅうきゅう はいびすかすもんちゅうなつめ)|Okinawa Shikki Benbō 沖縄漆器 紅房(おきなわしっき べんぼう) This lidded tea caddy is a refined example of Ryukyu lacquerware, decorated with a vivid hibiscus motif using the traditional Ryukyu technique of Tsuikin. Tsuikin is a distinctive decorative method in which colored lacquer is kneaded, rolled into thin sheets, cut into motifs, and applied to the surface, creating a rich relief and tactile depth. Set against a deep black ground, the hibiscus—an enduring symbol of Okinawa—emerges with striking color and sculptural presence. While firmly rooted in traditional lacquer craftsmanship, the design conveys a bold and modern sensibility, making this piece highly appreciated not only as a tea utensil but also as an object for display. Estimated period of production: 1980–1990 --- Artist Profile Okinawa Shikki Benbō was established in 1935. The workshop played an important role in the continuation of Ryukyu lacquer traditions until its closure in 2001. --- Accessories Wooden box Leaflet --- Dimensions & Weight Height 7 cm Diameter 7 cm Weight 56 g --- Technique & Condition Material: wood and lacquer Technique: lacquerware Condition: Excellent condition --- Shipping Shipping via Japan Post EMS from Japan.
