Hakue Chawan - Hvidglasur Hagi Ware tekrus - Keramik - Japan - 1900-2000

Item Description This is an exquisite Hagi-yaki (Hagi ware) tea bowl featuring a beautiful white glaze known as "Hakue" (white painting). Crafted by Tenryugama kiln, one of the renowned kilns in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, this piece exemplifies the understated elegance and rustic charm that defines traditional Hagi pottery. The bowl showcases the characteristic soft, porous clay of Hagi ware, with a delicate gradient from creamy white on the upper portion to earthy gray-brown tones around the foot. The surface exhibits natural kiln effects including fine crackling (kanyu), subtle ash deposits, and an organic color variation that creates a landscape-like appearance. The exterior features beautiful fire markings that enhance its wabi-sabi aesthetic. Hagi ware, with over 400 years of history, is celebrated as one of Japan's three great tea wares alongside Raku and Karatsu, following the traditional saying "Ichi-Raku, Ni-Hagi, San-Karatsu." The porous nature of Hagi clay allows tea to gradually seep into the vessel over time, causing subtle color changes known as "Hagi no Nanabake" (the seven transformations of Hagi), which enhances the bowl's character with each use. This tea bowl comes with its original wooden box (tomobako) inscribed by the kiln, confirming its authenticity. Tenryugama continues the centuries-old tradition while creating pieces that harmonize with contemporary lifestyles, making this bowl suitable for both traditional tea ceremony and everyday enjoyment. Size Height: 8.5 cm Width: 12.5 cm Depth: 12.5 cm Weight 375 g Condition The bowl is in good vintage condition with natural aging characteristics. The surface displays fine crazing lines throughout, which are typical of Hagi ware and considered part of its aesthetic appeal. There are no chips or cracks. NOTICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone.
