Why does it look real? Because it is real stone!
Ossatorum Aeterna is a company specializing in the creation of ultra-realistic replicas of dinosaur skeletons and other extinct or endangered animals. Using an innovative mineral-coating technique, our creations achieve an authentic, museum-quality appearance. This unique approach was born from a simple observation: painted replicas often lack realism, while traditional molds, although more faithful, provide limited detail and restrict the creation of fine anatomical features. Our hybrid technique combines the best of both worlds, accurately capturing anatomical complexity while giving a lifelike mineral texture of natural fossils. The result is arguably among the most realistic replicas currently available for discerning collectors and enthusiasts.

About Microraptor
Microraptor was a small, feathered dromaeosaurid dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous, approximately 120 million years ago, in what is now northeastern China (Liaoning Province). Famous for its exceptionally preserved fossils, Microraptor is one of the most important dinosaurs for understanding the evolution of flight. It possessed long feathers not only on its arms but also on its legs, forming a distinctive “four-winged” body plan.
Unlike larger predatory dromaeosaurs, Microraptor was lightweight and arboreal, likely capable of gliding between trees. Its skull is delicate, elongated, and finely constructed, reflecting a diet of small vertebrates and insects. The thin bone walls, narrow snout, and numerous small, sharp teeth make the Microraptor skull a striking example of early avian-adjacent dinosaur anatomy, bridging the gap between non-avian dinosaurs and birds.
Key Features (Superior Craftsmanship)
Weight and Stability
With the base included, the skull weighs 65 g. Its balanced construction ensures a stable and elegant display.
Mineralized Hyper-Realistic Finish
This piece has undergone a multi-step artisanal process, including a hand-applied mineral coating that faithfully replicates fossilized bone, natural weathering, and subtle sedimentary textures. Under directional lighting, the mineral layers reveal fine tonal variations, enhance anatomical contours, and bring depth to fenestrae and cavities—evoking the presence of an authentic fossil specimen.
Exceptional Detail
Surface textures, sutures, and cranial openings are reproduced with high fidelity, preserving the fragile and refined anatomy characteristic of Microraptor fossils.
Museum-Grade Mounting
The skull is mounted on a professional transparent rod fixed to a solid round wooden base. This museum-style presentation allows the skull to appear suspended, emphasizing its light build and anatomical elegance.
Material
Polymer core coated with Ossatorum Aeterna’s proprietary hand-applied mineral coating, crafted from carefully selected natural rocks, finely ground to achieve a realistic fossilized grain and coloration.
Scientific Accuracy
Based on current paleontological research and reproduced at true 1:1 scale, ensuring maximum anatomical and educational authenticity.
