The Eye of Ihei Kimura” is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Ihei Kimura. Along with Ken Domon, Ihei Kimura was a pioneer of Japanese photography before World War II. His achievements are so immeasurable that there is even a “Ihei Kimura Photography Award,” which has been described as the Akutagawa Prize of the photography world. Ihei Kimura was a chic and stylish photographer born in downtown Tokyo who worked in a variety of fields, from photojournalism at the “Nippon Kobo” with Yonosuke Natori and others, to portraits of women symbolized by Hideko Takamine and others, to snaps that have been compared to those of Bresson, Doisneau, and others. This book, published in 1970, is a collection of works mainly taken in the 50s and 60s after the war. It is a valuable volume that covers many of Kimura's postwar activities, including “Onna,” “Stage,” “Portrait Photography,” “Street Scenery,” “Akita,” “Travel in China,” and “Travel in Europe. (Included in The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990)
