Fossil tand - Megalodon - 11.7 cm - 7.2 cm (Ingen mindstepris)
→ 11.7 cm long x 7.2 cm wide Megalodon teeth
It is a very beautiful and rare Megalodon teeth in white color. While black colored Megalodon teeth are highly sought after, one cannot deny the uniqueness of white megalodon teeth. Infact it can be said, that white color fossilized teeth in way more closely resembles actual color of the Megalodon teeth assuming that Megalodon had similar teeth color as present day sharks. The whiteness in fossilization process is usually attributed to Calcium and/or Silica salts. The root of the teeth shows nice golden-yellow fossilization colors.
The small portion on left side of the root is unfortunately lost during retrieval from matrix but it has interestingly resulted in giving a glimpse into cross-section of the root which indicates that inner surface of the root is white sand like with golden-yellow coloration around it and also some of it creeping inside the root. Basically , the golden yellow coloration is due to Iron salts while the remaining root sand-like appearance is due to multiple mineral and the complex chemistry during the prolonged fossilization process (average fossilization time 13 Million years). The teeth also features a very nice looking white bourlette as well and the serrations are in excellent shape as well.
In summary, this a unique and different type of teeth to have for collectors of this beautiful historic monster of the seas which was undoubtedly the top predator of the Miocene and Pliocene (3.6 to 23 million years ago).
