Det Gamle Egypten, Den Sene Periode Fajance Blomstret amulet (Ingen mindstepris)
An Ancient Egyptian amulet pendant, made of blue faience, featuring an elongated body with a pointed base. The body tapers in at the top, before flaring out to meet the head of the amulet. The body is decorated with parallel vertical incisions making the pendant resemble a flower with closed petals or a fruit. There is a suspension loop at the top. The bottom of the amulet is finished with a small spherical terminal. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as pitting, discolouration and earthly encrustations.
The Egyptians wore amulets alongside other pieces of jewellery. They were decorative, but also served a practical purpose, being considered to bestow power and protection upon the wearer. Many of the amulets have been found inside the wrappings of mummies, as they were used to prepare the deceased for the afterlife. Fist amulets were a particular feature of the 1st Intermediate Period, however examples have been found from New Kingdom and Late Period burials. The amulet was meant to bestow the power of dexterity and movement upon the wearer.
