Unknown - Quran - North India - 1820

A fine bi-folio from a damaged Qur'an dating C1820 of North Indian origin. The scripture is from the doctrine of Chapter 2 of the Qur'an, Al-Baqarah (The Cow), v33-45, which focus on the story of Adam and Iblis (Satan), the subsequent guidance for humanity, and direct appeals to the Children of Israel to recognize the truth of the new revelation. Key themes within these verses are: Repentance & Mercy: Allah accepts repentance (Adam's story); Guidance vs. Misguidance: The necessity of following divine guidance; Accountability: The accountability of the Children of Israel; and Spiritual Strength: Prayer and patience as the foundation for overcoming difficulties. Both folios has 12 lines of neat naskh script in black ink, with inter-linear commentary in red in Persian. Gold aya circles mark the verses of the scripture. Gold interlinears divide the lines of scripture and commentary. There is a significant amount of further commentary in the margins of both folios, together with a marginal illumination to the left folio that marks the 40th verse of the chapter. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
