Britisk Indien. Georg 5.. 1/4 Rupee 1936c. Calcutta. MS64. (Ingen mindstepris)

British India - 1936 (C) ¼ Rupee – George V – SW‑8.173 / KM‑518 – PCGS MS64 A beautifully preserved 1936‑C ¼ Rupee of George V, graded PCGS MS64, with only 39 examples certified at this level and just 54 graded higher...a distinguished example for any advanced collection of British India coinage. Struck during the final months of George V’s coinage, this piece represents the last year of issue before the monarchy passed to Edward VIII and subsequently George VI. Its obverse bears the crowned bust of George V by Edgar Bertram MacKennal, while the reverse displays George Kruger-Gray’s elegant wreath of roses, thistle, shamrock, and lotus—symbolizing the union of Britain and India within the Empire. Produced at the Calcutta Mint (C mintmark) in high‑fineness (.917) silver, the ¼ Rupee served as an important fractional denomination throughout colonial India. High-grade, mint‑state pieces such as this one are notably scarce, having survived decades of circulation conditions that seldom left coins so well preserved. A key transitional issue standing at the close of the George V era, offering both historical and numismatic significance for collectors of British India or early 20th century imperial coinage.
