Triumph - TR3A - 1959

Triumph TR3A An eye-catching Triumph TR3A finished in Primrose Yellow, upgraded with twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors and supported by extensive engine maintenance history. GENERAL This Triumph TR3A is a head-turning example of the charismatic British open-top sports car. Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre inline-four equipped with twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors, it drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is located in Fayence, France. It was imported into Denmark in 2003 and remained with its previous owner for 11 years. It was previously registered in Denmark and is offered with Danish registration documents. The odometer displays 16,027 miles; however, this mileage is not warranted. EQUIPMENT & FEATURES This example is finished in Primrose Yellow with chrome trim elements, complemented by a black interior with white piping. It rides on 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, fitted with Michelin XZX tyres. The specification includes a complete weather protection kit with hood and side windows, a black tonneau cover, mesh headlight grilles, front spotlights, and a luggage rack with a tan leather suitcase. Inside, it features a three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, Jaeger gauges, a locking glove compartment, and front disc brakes with rear drum brakes. An upgraded larger radiator has been installed to improve cooling performance. CONDITION The car has reportedly been re-sprayed in recent years, though no supporting invoice is available. The brightwork and trim display a gentle patina consistent with age. The interior shows light wear, with minor scuffs and marks to the upholstery. There is a small indentation on the driver’s door and a small crack at the top right side of the windscreen. Prospective buyers are encouraged to review the photo gallery carefully to assess the overall condition of the exterior and interior. SERVICE HISTORY The most recent service was reportedly completed in October 2025 at 15,870 miles by DK Classic Cars. This service included replacement of oils, fluids, filters, and spark plugs. In June 2018, a clutch master cylinder and copper head gasket were supplied by TMDT. An invoice from QB Auto v/ Jesper Jensen dated November 2017 documents the installation of a new cylinder head due to faulty valves. In October 2017, TMDT carried out cylinder head boring and fitted a gasket set, aluminium cylinder head, pushrods, and Loctite gasket sealant. A December 2015 invoice from TMDT details various engine components and services, including a used crankshaft, pistons, liners, thermostat, oil pump, and complete engine assembly. SUMMARY The Triumph TR3A is a characterful and engaging British classic roadster, celebrated for its robust mechanical simplicity and timeless styling. This example benefits from substantial documented engine work and the desirable addition of twin Weber carburettors, making it an appealing proposition for collectors and enthusiasts alike. It would make a rewarding addition to any collection of British classics and an enjoyable companion for weekend drives, fair-weather touring, and classic car events.
