Outstanding specimen of Walliserops trifurcatus, one of the most iconic and sought-after trilobites from the Devonian deposits of Morocco, famous for its extraordinary trident-shaped rostrum projecting from the front of the cephalon.

This example is preserved in an impressive three-dimensional “climbing” position, enhancing both its naturalistic appearance and display quality. The long trifurcated rostrum is complete and well defined. Although there is still scientific debate regarding the exact function of this unusual structure, it is generally believed that it may have served a sensory purpose, been used to stir sediment while searching for food, or possibly played a role in behavioral display.

The specimen exhibits excellent shell detail, including clearly visible eye facets and fine surface ornamentation. Several small thoracic spines have been carefully prepared in full relief, individually freed from the surrounding matrix. The preparation was carried out using air abrasive tools and required many hours of meticulous work by a highly skilled preparator, a process that significantly enhances both the aesthetic and collectible value of the piece. There is no significant restoration.

Trilobites are among the earliest complex arthropods in the fossil record, appearing more than 500 million years ago and thriving for hundreds of millions of years in ancient seas. Specimens of Walliserops trifurcatus, particularly well-prepared three-dimensional examples such as this one, are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
