Illustrated by Arthur Rackham with 13 Plates in full colour and more than 50 more line drawings, some full page, others in the text. Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Arthur Rackham (illustrator). First edition. Arthur Rackham's fantastic and desirable first Rackham edition in the original decorative cloth binding. Arthur Rackham's illustrated version of Aesop's fables, translated by V. S. Vernon, with an introduction from G. K. Chesterton. The works feature a collection of charming and popular fables credited to Aesop, a Greek storyteller and fabulist whose tales were characterised by the anthropomorphic animal characters. During the "Golden Age" of British book illustration Rackham was one of its leading artists. He used expressive line with a subtle washes of watercolour to create his beautiful images. The first edition is in the original publisher's decorative cloth. Very solid bright green cloth cover with gilt decoration to the front and spine. Some slight wear, otherwise in a nice clean condition for a book over 100 years old. All lovely and clean inside with a slight inscription on the ESP. WITH 222 PAGES
