Marionet - Træ, Glas, Tekstil, Perler, palietter - 1990-2000

Burmese String Puppet (Yoke thé) Marionette – Handcrafted – Myanmar – Vintage Traditional Burmese string puppet, also known as a Yoke thé marionette, originating from Myanmar (formerly Burma). These puppets were used in traditional Burmese puppet theatre, where the figure is animated using multiple strings attached to a wooden control bar. The puppet is hand-carved and hand-painted, and richly decorated with elaborate textiles in red and gold tones. The costume is embellished with beads, sequins, embroidery and small coloured glass elements, reflecting the ornate style typical of Burmese puppet theatre figures. The figure represents a richly dressed character, possibly a celestial being (Deva) or courtly figure, as suggested by the elaborate costume and headdress. The articulated wooden limbs are connected with strings allowing controlled movement during performances. Such puppets are an important part of Burmese cultural heritage and are collected today both as ethnographic objects and decorative works. Specifications • Origin: Myanmar (Burma) • Type: Traditional Burmese string puppet (Yoke thé marionette) • Material: Carved and painted wood, textile, beads, sequins and decorative glass elements • Technique: Handcrafted and hand-painted • Period: mid 20th century (vintage) • Dimensions (approx.): 40 × 20.5 × 8.5 cm Condition Overall in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. The colour of the textile has faded over time and some of the small decorative glass elements are missing. The strings appear somewhat tangled and would benefit from being checked and adjusted for optimal functionality. The top of the headdress shows some wear. General wear consistent with age and use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the description. A striking and decorative example of traditional Burmese puppet theatre craftsmanship. The item will be carefully packaged and shipped insured. Offered without reserve price!
