Omega - Seamaster - Ingen mindstepris - 166.067 - Unisex - 1970
Vintage superb Omega Seamaster dating from 1970 with its original matt finish dial . Model Ref 166.067 and in super fine original condition. This less conventional shaped watch has been called the 'Bezel less' model due to its quite abstract front case shape. The shoulders curve away and the glass has a flat circular surround. This makes the watch almost seem to mound to your wrist. Combining the shape and dial makes this watch rather special and it also comes on its original steel beads of rice Omega bracelet which is also in good original condition.
The original matt silver sunburst dial is complete with the date window at 3 o'clock. The clean lines of the steel and black batons and matching sword hands the dial is also signed 'Omega, Automatic with the famous Omega logo at 12 o'clock and 'Seamaster' at 6. Nothing screams 'classic dress watch' like a 1970s Omega and this elegant model is one of best I have had in recent years.
The 35mm, stainless steel, unpolished screw-back case is complete with the Seamaster hippocampus on the case back and wears bigger as it is 45mm long. Inside is the automatic, Omega Cal 565, 24 Jewels with pull push date change, watch is in good working order throughout.
Extra Points
Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space. It was only a few years before the Speedmaster became the official chronograph for the American space missions and was worn by Buzz Aldrin as well as the Apollo 13 crew.
An Omega Seamaster is a must have for any collection and this is a great fit for both men and women. Stands up tall against a Rolex Datejust and at a fraction of the price. It's perfect for first-time buyers or seasoned collectors. If you're looking for an affordable, attractive and reliable vintage omega watch which is individual and doesn't conform, you'd be pushed to find a better example!
