Vikingetiden Gulguld Parure - Guldapplikationer til vikinger
A finely modelled Viking-Latvian gold attachment. These type of appliques were used in antiquity to decorate and embellish dresses, robes and garments.
Both Viking men and women enjoyed wearing jewellery as an indicator of wealth and social status. Indeed, pieces were fashioned from a range of materials spanning bone to gold, with decoration influenced by the cultures that the Vikings had encountered on expeditions. The design of this item was likely formed using the repoussé technique of hammering reliefs into thin sheets of metal from the reverse side.
Total weight 1,32 g gold
