Dial and Hands
The dial of this Alpineum is a visual delight, featuring a dynamic golden-brown fumé gradient that transitions smoothly from a bright center to darker edges. Beneath the gradient lies a distinct vertical brushing texture that catches the light beautifully. The dial furniture is highly detailed, boasting applied faceted baton indices with white central channels, complemented by matching baton hands with black inserts. At twelve o'clock sits the iconic Rado rotating red anchor logo, while the Alpineum model name is elegantly printed above six o'clock. A framed date aperture at three o'clock displays striking red numerals on a white background. The dial condition is exceptional, remaining incredibly clean and vibrant, free from significant spotting, moisture marks, or discoloration, presenting a flawless vintage aesthetic.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel cushion-shaped case features broad, sweeping lines characteristic of the era. The polished upper surfaces and case flanks show honest, age-consistent hairlines and superficial scratches, retaining their original geometric presence without signs of heavy over-polishing. The watch retains its original Rado-signed crown, proudly bearing the anchor motif. The true focal point of the exterior is the dramatic, multi-faceted acrylic crystal, which creates a mesmerizing diamond-patterned interplay of light and shadow across the dial. The screw-down stainless steel caseback is clearly engraved with the classic Rado seahorse medallion, "Water-Sealed" text, and the K314555 reference/serial number.
Movement
Inside beats a robust Swiss automatic movement, clearly stamped under the balance wheel as an ETA caliber 2824. The movement features a beautifully finished rotor with a textured crosshatch pattern, signed by Rado and noting 25 jewels. The caliber presents cleanly with well-preserved components visible throughout the mechanism. Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. The timegrapher results indicate a performance of +46s to +55s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted to its original Rado stainless steel multi-link bracelet, which seamlessly integrates with the cushion case. The clasp is fully hallmarked with the Rado name and the embossed anchor logo. The bracelet shows moderate flexibility and light surface wear consistent with its age, securely accommodating a wrist size up to 19cm.
Condition
This Rado Alpineum is presented in excellent vintage condition. The case, bezel, and original bracelet exhibit normal, honest handling marks and light scratches expected from a timepiece of this vintage, while maintaining strong overall lines. The spectacular faceted crystal remains highly presentable and clear. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved, showcasing vibrant colors, crisp printing, and pristine applied elements with no noticeable flaws or damage.
