Beskrivelse fra sælger

African tribal votive figure carved from dark Mbigou stone (Gabonese steatite). The sculpture depicts a stylized standing female figure with elongated proportions, almond-shaped eyes, and refined minimalist facial features typical of Central African artistic traditions.

The figure is represented with raised hands positioned alongside the head, a posture often associated with ritual or symbolic meaning. The body features finely incised geometric decorations forming a grid-pattern loincloth and ornamental motifs along the hairstyle and back, demonstrating careful hand-carving craftsmanship.

The sculpture is made from dense Mbigou stone, a material traditionally used in Gabon for ceremonial and decorative carvings. The underside bears a hand-incised inscription reading “GABON TOULOUBA,” likely referring to a place of origin, collection reference, or historical collector marking.

Period:
Circa 1940 – 1970

Material:
Mbigou stone (steatite)

Origin:
Gabon, Central Africa

Condition:
Good vintage condition with natural wear, surface patina, and minor abrasions consistent with age and use. The inscription on the base is clearly visible. No structural damage observed.
