Complete Portuguese Art Nouveau Silver Desk Set in Original Case – Dated 1924
An elegant Portuguese silver desk set from the early 20th century, beautifully executed in Art Nouveau style and preserved complete with all its original elements and fitted presentation case.
This set includes:
- Ink bottle (silver lid ; glass body)
- Paper knife (steel blade ; silver handle)
- Sealing-wax knife (steel blade ; silver handle)
- Engraved seal with beautifully interlaced initials (silver)
- Dip pen (silver body ; metal dip)
- Ink blotter (silver applications ; wood body)
- Original case (multiple materials)
A particularly charming detail is the engraved date on the lid of the ink bottle: 2 February 1924, suggesting that this set may originally have been commissioned as a birthday or commemorative gift more than a century ago.
Material and Hallmarks:
All pieces are crafted in Portuguese 833 silver and bear the Portuguese Boar Head (2 strokes) hallmark, used between 1887 and 1937. Every piece is hallmarked, including the maker’s mark.

The set is in remarkably good overall condition for its age and appears to have been very lightly used throughout its lifetime.
- The pieces retain an excellent appearance with only minimal and very light signs of age and handling.
- The ink bottle lid has a dent on one of the sides.
- The original case remains in overall good condition, although both the interior and exterior show some wear. The case locks and closures function perfectly. The original retaining straps inside the case, designed to support the lid when opened, are no longer intact.
