Beskrivelse fra sælger
Perpetual desk calendar with globe, thermometer and pen holder – France, 1940s–1960s
Elegant and fascinating perpetual desk calendar in late Art Déco / Mid-Century style, probably of French production, dating from the 1940s to the 1960s.
The object constitutes a refined bureau composition composed of:
- mechanical perpetual calendar with manual adjustment of day, date and month;
- characteristic globe-shaped dial with depiction of the Americas;
- small integrated thermometer with graduated scale;
- original pen holder with black support;
- oval base in glossy black material with a bakelite-like finish.
Particularly original is the calendar, whose date appears through a small window cut directly into the globe. Under the dial there are two additional windows showing the month and the day of the week in French, adjustable via the original side knobs.
The design recalls the cosmopolitan taste of the era, when maps, globes and scientific instruments were recurring elements in the offices of professionals, executives, technical studios and representative environments. The combination of functionality and decoration makes this object particularly scenographic and sought-after.
The structure features an original gilded finish with a pleasant patina of time, while the glossy black base creates an elegant contrast typical of high-quality desk accessories of the period.
The thermometer is present and legible; the calendar is complete and manually adjustable. The original pen holder is intact.
Conditions
Good overall condition for its age.
Normal signs of use and aging are present:
- slight wear of the gilding;
- small surface marks and light oxidations;
- some imperfections and marginal chips on the black base;
- light wear consistent with over half a century of use.
Authentic patina, never restored.
Ideal for
- vintage desk objects collectors;
- lovers of Art Déco and Mid-Century styles;
- globe and perpetual calendar collectors;
- professional studios, libraries and representative offices;
- retro, industrial or travel-inspired interiors.
An elegant, decorative and functional desk accessory that combines the charm of vintage cartography with the practicality of mid-20th century bureau instruments.
