Paul Cheng blev født og voksede op i Guangzhou, Kina, og studerede ved Guangzhou Fine Art College i Kina, en af de mest prestigefyldte kunstskoler i Kina. Han tog en BFA-grad og underviste ved den samme skole. Hans malerier er udstillet ved forskellige kunstkonkurrencer i Kina, Australien og De Forenede Stater og er blevet en prisvindende kunstner. Paul Cheng blev omtalt i Southwest Art Magazine i april 2013. Han har arbejdet for nogle af de største underholdningsselskaber som Senior visual development artist, art director og en Senior illustrator hos spilstudier i Australien og USA. Disse projekter, han har arbejdet på, blev enten nomineret til Oscar for Bedste Animation Feature Film eller vandt Oscar for Fremragende Gennemførelse i Karakterdesign i en animeret spillefilm samt en Emmy-pris.
