Introduced in 1981 as the successor to the legendary AE-1, the Canon AE-1 Program brought a fully automatic Program AE mode — previously reserved for the flagship A-1 — to Canon's hugely popular A-series. With Program AE, shutter-priority AE, and metered manual exposure all on tap, plus an A-1-style palm grip and an LED viewfinder readout, it became one of the best-selling 35mm SLRs of its era and remains a favourite entry point into film photography today. It uses the Canon FD mount and works with the entire FD lens family.

Paired here is the Canon New FD 35-105mm f/3.5, announced in 1981. This is the constant-aperture f/3.5 version (not the later f/3.5-4.5), a prosumer-grade standard zoom that holds its bright f/3.5 maximum aperture across the full 35-50-85-105mm range. It features a two-ring design with separate zoom and focus rings, Canon's Super Spectra coating, and a Macro mode at the wide end for close-up work. Its near-parfocal behaviour and smooth, organic rendering have made it a long-standing favourite among film shooters and, more recently, videographers.

Mount compatibility:
This is a manual-focus Canon FD lens. It mounts natively on all Canon FD-mount SLR bodies. On modern mirrorless cameras (Sony E, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Canon RF/EF-M, and others) it can be used with a simple FD-mount adapter while retaining infinity focus.

Light seals in the film chamber have been partially replaced with new material.

Fungus: Yes — a small amount of fungus is present inside the lens. Based on inspection it is minor and does not affect normal photography.

Balsam separation: No
Dust: A small amount of internal dust may be present, as is common for lenses of this age; it does not affect image quality.

Functional
The camera powers on correctly. The shutter fires and all shutter speeds operate properly. The camera works as intended in use.
Lens: the focus and zoom rings move smoothly, the aperture operates correctly, and the Macro mechanism works.
Viewfinder: there is slight haze inside the viewfinder. It does not significantly affect visibility in use.
Battery cover: No problem.
