The artwork Magnetische proporties (Magnetic Proportions) is a creation by Panamarenko (the artistic name of Henri Van Herwegen, 1940–2019), a Belgian artist famous for his machines and inventions that lie somewhere between art and science, often connected to flight, energy, and technological imagination.

This poster is not Panamarenko’s sculptural installation, but rather a preparatory drawing for Magnetische proporties (1969–1970). He often produced these plans by hand on graph paper, using ink, watercolor, and markers—blending the aesthetics of technical drawing with the fantasy of an impossible machine.

Panamarenko always emphasized that these plans were not just sketches but artworks in their own right. In fact, many of his projects were never turned into real machines, so the drawings became the space where imagination and science could meet. With Magnetische proporties, he explored how magnetic forces might allow a spacecraft to fly. It was one of his earliest projects linked to the dream of creating UFOs and alternative aircraft.
