Interessant lot bestående af 5 antikke strygejern, forskellige i form, konstruktion og udformning, som vidner om de gamle systemer, der blev brugt til husholdnings- og skrædderstrygning før udbredelsen af moderne elektriske strygejern.

Lotten omfatter modeller lavet af støbejern og metal, med forskellige håndtag og konstruktionsdetaljer. Et eksempel har en sølvfarvet metallegeme med et karakteristisk rødt håndtag, mens et andet har en brungrå/brunstet krop med et sort håndtag. De resterende tre er tunge traditionelle strygejern i støbejern, karakteriseret ved en smuk patina af tiden og tydelige oxidationstegn.

De er ikke blevet restaureret eller poleret for at bevare deres oprindelige look så meget som muligt. Før eventuel praktisk brug ville en passende rengøring og konservering være nødvendig.

Interesting lot consisting of 5 antique irons, different in shape, construction and design, representing traditional ironing tools used in domestic and tailoring environments before the introduction of modern electric irons.

The collection includes pieces made of cast iron and metal, with different handles and construction details. One example has a silver-coloured metal body with a characteristic red handle, while another has a brown-toned body with a black handle. The remaining three are traditional heavy cast-iron irons with beautiful aged patina and visible oxidation.

Period and original use

The construction and typology are broadly consistent with the late 19th to first half of the 20th century. These irons were used manually to press and smooth textiles, being heated by an external heat source or, depending on the model, by a specific internal heating system.

They are evocative objects representing everyday life in a period when ironing was entirely manual.

Condition

The collection is presented in original antique condition, with clear signs of age and use, including oxidation, rust, abrasions, paint loss, discoloration and natural patina.

The red handle has several areas of loss to the original paint, while the cast-iron examples retain a strong oxidized patina that enhances their authentic historical appearance.

They have not been restored or polished, in order to preserve their original character. Appropriate cleaning and conservation would be recommended before any practical use.
