Beskrivelse fra sælger

● Original Mixed Media Artwork. Unique Edition. Canvas print individually hand-finished with spray paint and Grog red squeezer marker and spray painting. Presented in a vintage solid wood frame with an ornate gold finish. Dimensions: 48 x 40 cm. and 4 cm. depth.

The artwork combines contemporary digital imagery with physical artistic intervention, transforming the printed canvas into a unique mixed-media composition. Each piece is individually completed by hand, making every artwork a distinct variation within the limited edition. The restored vintage frame forms an integral part of the artwork, reinforcing the dialogue between classical painting and contemporary urban expression.

The artwork is individually signed on the reverse and accompanied by a physical certificate of authenticity.

“Masterpeace” reinterprets Jacques-Louis David’s celebrated masterpiece The Intervention of the Sabine Women (1799), one of the defining works of European Neoclassicism and a timeless symbol of reconciliation and peace. Across this iconic composition, a bold hand-painted graffiti reading “PEACE” interrupts the historical image, collapsing more than two centuries of visual culture into a single contemporary gesture.

Rather than acting as an act of destruction, the intervention becomes an act of reinterpretation. The spontaneous language of graffiti enters into dialogue with one of the great masterpieces of Western art, questioning ideas of authorship, cultural value and artistic authority. By bringing together museum heritage and urban expression, the artwork explores how historical images continue to evolve when viewed through the visual language of the present.

● About the Artist

Nando López (Barcelona) is the founder of Dikhotomy, an artistic project dedicated to exploring how images change meaning when they are relocated into new cultural contexts.

His work establishes connections between historical iconography, popular culture, everyday objects and visual memory, creating artworks that move between irony, visual appropriation and contemporary reinterpretation.

Through limited-edition prints, paintings, assemblages and object-based installations, he develops a visual universe in which the familiar appears altered, encouraging new perspectives on consumption, desire, identity and pop culture.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is also featured through various concept stores in Spain, France, Belgium and Norway. Among his recognitions are a solo exhibition at Gamla Kraftstationen Gallery (Sweden) and the publication of his illustration I Am Jesus as the cover image of Newsweek Polska in May 2024.
