Venetiis, apud haeredes Lucaeantonii Iuntae Florentini, 1542 mense Ianuario.
Folio (310 x 217), [10], 479,[1] leaves, contemporary vellum, four-ribs spine, handwritten titles by ancient hands, title page ( skillfully reinforced to internal margin) printed in red and black, with titles inscribed into an allegorical frame, a largely illustrated edition with 54 fascinating woodcuts of different sizes : 18 large ( ¾ page , 183 x 142) ; 21 medium, ½ page, 146 x 117; 15 small, 1/3 page, 130 x 87 . On the last leaf recto, under the register, the famous large woodcut representing the Vergil’s burial, on the verso the large Giunta’s printer’s device. Text surround by commentaries , the last part of the works, the so-called “Appendix Vergiliana” profusely notated, a fine copy on large and crisp paper, complete under all respects. One of the best edition printed in XVIth century, here in a possibly UNIQUE COPY, with a significantly enlarged number of woodcuts, 54, instead of 30, as in all the copies of this edition mentioned in the bibliographical sources.
A true gem and a nice addition to every high-class collectors library, here offered at a very reasonable reserve price.
