There's a moment, somewhere between jazz and ska, where the beat bends without breaking. Bent Note Boogie is built from that bend: the note the trumpet player forces downward, the body folding to hold it, the same lean a rude boy still throws across the dance floor eighty years later.

This isn't a scene from a concert. It's the common ground between two languages born an ocean apart that met on the same broken beat. The black-and-white linework — hard, repeated, almost mechanical — is the structure: the checkerboard of 2 Tone, the discipline of the staff, the pulse that never lets up. Inside it, color shows up sparingly — a watch, a hint of tone — like the improvisation that slips between the marked bars, the part of the music no sheet can hold.

That tension between rigid line and loose color is the piece itself: the plasticity of sound turned into matter. Black and white carry the rhythm; color breathes on top of it, like swing refusing to sit still inside the beat.
