The tray has an organically shaped, undulating outline and is decorated with overlapping grape leaves and openwork vine branches. The two lateral handles are formed as stylised branches, while the underside rests on four small projecting feet.

The object has a substantial construction and an attractive aged brass surface with variations in tone, natural oxidation and signs of previous use.

The design corresponds very closely to documented 20th-century brass grapevine vide-poches and trays of similar dimensions and construction. Comparable examples have been catalogued in the European specialist and auction market as Art Nouveau or Art Nouveau-style objects.

The piece is unsigned and unmarked. No maker or foundry has been identified, and the precise country of manufacture has not been established.
