This is a beautifully crafted, entirely hand-cast bronze praying mantis figurine—a classic example of Japanese metalwork artistry.
The sculpture features exquisite attention to detail, with finely rendered compound eyes, serrated forelegs, a segmented abdomen, and intricate wing venation; the form of each limb has been meticulously shaped to capture the mantis's lifelike posture.
The surface displays a natural patina developed over time, offering a rich and nuanced bronze hue. Capable of standing firmly on its own, it serves equally well as a desk ornament, a paperweight, or a decorative accent for a tea setting.
Japanese metal artisans have long specialized in creating realistic bronze insect figurines, and such pieces are highly prized by collectors of Asian antiques and metal sculpture.
It is in excellent condition with no major damage, bearing only the subtle signs of age and handling characteristic of a vintage object.
