Founded in Le Locle in 1894, Universal Genève established a distinguished reputation for combining technical innovation with elegant design. This reference represents the brand’s tradition of slim dress watches during the transition to quartz technology.

The watch is powered by the signed Universal Genève calibre 1-43, an eight-jewel quartz movement. Contemporary coverage in the November 1979 issue of Horological Times introduced calibre 43 as a movement designed and manufactured in Universal Genève’s own facilities. Measuring just 2.30 mm thick, it was developed for the brand’s extra-slim quartz collection—a noteworthy chapter in its watchmaking history.

This example features a champagne sunburst dial that changes subtly with the light. Fine applied baton markers, slender hands and a discreet Universal Genève signature create a balanced, uncluttered appearance. Its 32 mm case offers classic vintage proportions, complemented by a polished gold-tone finish and a new black strap.

The battery has recently been replaced and the case has received a fresh gold-plated finish. A new replacement strap has also been fitted. The original Universal Genève-signed crown is retained; the buckle is a replacement and is not an original Universal Genève component.

The renewed case finish gives the watch a fresh appearance, while visible signs of age and previous use remain. In particular, the stainless steel case back shows surface marks and areas of pitting, clearly illustrated in the photographs.
