This vase was made by Miyagi Katsuomi, a contemporary master craftsman of Ryukyu ware. Miyagi Katsuomi is known as a contemporary master craftsman certified by the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, and many of his apprentices have gone on to become independent artists. Miyagi Pottery Studio is located in Kamiyonabaru, Yonabaru-cho, Okinawa Prefecture, and is currently run by Katsuomi's son, Katsuichiro, who is trying his hand at new works in addition to traditional pieces such as shisa. His second son, Shojin, has also gone independent and is active. Ryukyu ware refers to pottery made in Okinawa, other than Tsuboya ware. *A representative Okinawan potter.
