Bronze - Miyuki 美雪 Daikoku 大黒 - Daikokuten 大黒天 er en guddom, der er forbundet med rige høst og forretningsvelstand. - Meiji-perioden (1868-1912) (Ingen mindstepris)

A bronze statue of Daikokuten with his feet on a rice sack. The artist is Miyuki 美雪. There is an engraving on the bottom. It is from the Meiji to Taisho period, about 100-150 years ago. Daikokuten is an important deity in Japanese Buddhism and folk beliefs, and is one of the Seven Lucky Gods. Daikokuten symbolizes wealth, prosperity in business, and agricultural abundance, garnering significant reverence. He is characterized by his broad smile and flat cap. Typically depicted riding on a bale of rice, Daikokuten wears a hood and carries a large bag representing treasures, as well as a magical mallet from which wealth flows. In his left hand, he holds a treasure tower (hōtō) or a pilgrim's staff (shakujo), while in his right hand, he wields a scepter (shaku) believed to fulfill wishes. Known as a guardian deity in Buddhism, Daikokuten is also venerated as a protector of business prosperity in Japanese folklore. Daikokuten is one of the Seven Lucky Gods and is regarded as the deity of food. Daikokuten is a syncretic deity that combines elements of the Hindu god Shiva, known as Mahakala, with indigenous Japanese beliefs, thus considered a unique Japanese deity. Depicted sitting atop a bale of rice, wearing a hood, holding a hammer, and carrying a large bag over his shoulder, Daikokuten is characterized by his smiling face and elongated earlobes. Widely believed to bring blessings of wealth, prosperity, bountiful harvests, career success, and good fortune in matchmaking, Daikokuten is often worshipped alongside Ebisu, forming a pair of deities revered for agriculture and fishing.
