Judaea, Herodian Kingdom. Herod II Archelaus. 4 B.C.E.-6 C.E. Æ prutah (14 mm, 1.60 g, 6 h). Jerusalem. ΗΡ-ω/Δ-Ο-[Υ], upright anchor with wide arms / ΕΘ/ΑΝ in two lines within wreath. TJC 69b; Hendin 1193; RPC 4913.
Herod Archelaus, eldest son of Herod the Great and at this time Ethnarch over Judea, Idumea, and Samaria, is mentioned in Matthew 2:13-23. He is likely also the ruler who sailed in the Parable of the Pounds/Minas in Luke 19:11-27, a reference to Archelaus' journey to Rome to plead before Augustus.
