Lucian Freud - Girl with a Kitten / 1947.

Offset Lithograph Lucian Freud. / Girl with a Kitten, 1947. Copyright @ The Lucian Freud Archive / Dridgeman Images 2023. Printed in London 2023. Published by Tate Modern London . Bequeathed by Simon Sainsbury 2006, accessiores 2008. This is one of several portraits of Freud’s first wife, Kathleen Garman, known as Kitty. His works during the 1940s played with spatial and psychological elements, inviting the viewer to think about the objects in the paintings and their relationships to one another. The art print measures 40 x 30 cm, and is printed on responsibly sourced, FSC certified paper by our Sussex-based printmakers. It includes a white border and a credit line printed underneath the artwork image. Lucian Freud is one of the most important figurative artists of the second half of the 20th century. His expressionism brings him close to artists such as Bacon and Auerbach, with whom he formed the so-called School of London (paradoxically, none of the three were from London, or even British), although Freud was one of the most ‘naturalistic’ in showing ‘reality’. Specialising in portraits, his paintings are cold, expressing hardly any feelings, but trying to emphasise carnality and matter (again, like Bacon or Auerbach), especially in his excellent nudes. He was the grandson of Sigmund Freud, so early in his career he embraced Surrealism. As with many artists, Hitler's rise to power caused his family to emigrate and settle in London. In the 1940s he established his figurative style, fleeing from the abstraction in vogue at the time. He worked almost exclusively in portraiture: people he knew as friends, family, fellow artists, lovers... He was lucky enough to be able to turn down lucrative commissioned portraits. He always sought in some way to nourish himself with the autobiographical. He also worked on portraits of animals such as pets and horses, sometimes accompanying their owners, in scenes of poetic subtlety in some cases. All posters are original and have been selected by art lovers for art lovers. Collector's item. This item is shipped certified with a tracking number and carefully protected.
