Losbruch (Outbreak) is the most dramatic image in the series: a woman raises her arms to call for rebellion, and armed peasants attack. It is considered one of the most powerful images of collective revolt in modern European art.
3. Meaning
It represents social rupture and the despair of the oppressed classes.
Kollwitz chose a woman as the catalyst for the revolt, emphasizing the role of motherhood and pain in social dynamics.
Emblematic image of politically and socially engaged art from the early 20th century.
