Bronzealder Bronze Hestefigur (Ingen mindstepris)
A Bronze Age bronze stylised quadruped figurine, likely a horse, featuring a thin body, long legs and a long tail which points outwards. The head displays a triangular-shaped skull with triangular ears pointing upwards. The remnants of a suspension loop survive on the back of the figurine, suggesting amuletic use. Earthy encrustations to the surface and signs of wear as consistent with age, such as scratches, pitting, and chipping.
Animals are a recurring motif in Bronze Age art and metalwork. The prevalence and intricacy of horse depictions, as well as horse equipment, in Bronze Age bronzes implies a great significance of the animal in the culture. The manufacturers of the these bronzes, though unknown, are widely understood to have been a nomadic people, and horses would have played a crucial role in almost every aspect of life, including transport, warfare, agriculture and religion.
