Vintage japansk Shishimai (løvedans) hoved - Papir, Træ, Naturlig fiber - Japan - 20. århundrede

[Description] This is an authentic vintage Japanese Shishimai (Lion Dance) head, traditionally used in festive performances and seasonal celebrations. It is a handcrafted folk-art piece made of wood and paper, finished with hand-painted red lacquer and decorative gold accents. The mane is made of natural plant fiber, typical of mid-20th-century regional workshop production. The piece was stored in a traditional Japanese warehouse (kuradashi) and shows natural aging consistent with long-term storage. Shishimai heads of this type were used in local festivals to invite good fortune and ward off evil—making them highly collectible examples of Japanese folk performing-arts culture. This is a characterful and expressive example of Showa-period craftsmanship, suitable for collectors of Japanese folk art, masks, theatre props, or cultural artifacts. [Condition] Vintage condition with signs of age and use: Surface wear, paint loss, small chips, and scratches throughout, consistent with authentic festival use and age. Crack lines and scuffs visible in several areas (see photos). Mane fibers show age-related dryness but remain intact. Structurally stable overall with no major structural damage. All wear is typical for a Shishimai head of this period and contributes to its traditional character. Please examine the photos carefully for a full understanding of its condition. [Material] Wood, paper, natural fiber (hair) [Dimensions] Approx. 33 × 16 × 19 cm (W × D × H, including hair) Approx. 507 g [Origin] Japan — Showa period (20th century) or earlier [Notes] A rare and expressive example of traditional Japanese festival craftsmanship. Pieces of this type rarely appear on the market in complete and displayable condition.
