Australite. Glas dannet ved meteoritpåvirkning - 3.2 g

Australite is the name for a type of tektite found in Australia that formed approximately 788,000 years ago from a huge meteorite impact in the Gulf of Tonkin (Vietnam). A tektite is a natural glass created when a meteorite impact melts terrestrial rocks, which are then ejected into the atmosphere, cool, and fall back to Earth. Australites are known for their dark color and unique, aerodynamic shapes. Formation of Australites: Origin: A large meteorite impact in the Gulf of Tonkin (Vietnam) approximately 788,000 years ago. Melting: The immense energy of the impact vaporized and melted terrestrial rocks. Ejection: This molten material was blasted high into the upper atmosphere. Cooling and Shaping: As the material fell back to Earth, it cooled and solidified into glass, with aerodynamic forces during atmospheric re-entry creating unique shapes, such as the "flanged button". Characteristics of Australites: Appearance: Typically dark or black in color. Shapes: Known for distinctive aerodynamic shapes, including discs, bowls, and the unique "flanged button". Composition: A natural glass, not a meteorite, formed from melted surface rock. Historical and Scientific Significance: Human use: Aboriginal Australians have used australites as tools and ritual objects for thousands of years. Scientific study: The aerodynamic shapes have been studied by NASA for their design of re-entry modules for the Apollo program. This specimen is offered in the conditions seen in the pictures. Certificate of authenticity included. IMCA 5591. Packages are usually sent the morning after the auction. Shipping is combined in all my listings - if you win multiple items, only one shipping cost is paid. Do not miss this opportunity!
