Romarriket. Geta (AD 209-211). Denarius AD 198-209 Rome. PONTIF COS II (Ingen mindstepris)

Roman Empire – Geta (as Caesar, AD 198–209) Silver Denarius Catalogue references: RIC 61b; Sear 7188; RIC IV 61b; BMCRE 586; RSC 117; Sear 7188 Date: ca. AD 200–202 Material: Silver Legal tender: No – Ancient Roman coin; no longer legal tender Any damage: Light wear consistent with age; no major damage. Weight: 3.05 g Diameter: 18.8 mm Mint: Rome Obverse Legend: P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES Bare-headed bust of Geta as Caesar, facing right. The portrait is sharp and youthful, typical of early issues during the joint reign of Septimius Severus and Caracalla. Reverse Legend: PONTIF COS II Depicting Geta standing left, holding a patera in his right hand and a scepter in his left. A clear representation of his priestly authority and political status while still Caesar. Condition A well-preserved and attractive denarius with a strong portrait of the young Geta. Reverse details are clear, and the inscriptions remain mostly legible. Light, natural circulation wear consistent with age. Pleasant patina and problem-free surfaces. Notes Geta was the younger son of Emperor Septimius Severus and served as Caesar before briefly becoming co-Augustus with his brother Caracalla. His coinage as Caesar is historically significant, as most depictions end abruptly after his assassination by Caracalla in AD 211. See images for correct impression.
