In Sanskrit, his name means “He who subdues the three realms.” He is regarded as the fierce manifestation of the Buddha Akshobhya, who removes the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance that bind beings across the past, present, and future. The deity is shown with three wrathful faces and eight arms, the central face featuring a third eye on the forehead to symbolise supreme insight. The lower pair of hands forms the distinctive subjugation mudra (with crossed arms and interlinked little fingers). The second right hand holds a jewel, while the second left hand’s implement is missing. The third right hand holds a disc, and the third left hand grasps a metal rod, which appears to have belonged to another figure. The fourth right hand retains only the handle of its former implement, while the fourth left hand holds a small unidentified object. Beneath him are two horned, scaly beasts and a crouching demon figure supporting his weight. These represent the subjugated forces of ignorance and worldly desire, overpowered by Trailokyavijaya’s spiritual might. The surface retains traces of the original polychrome and gold-coloured highlights. Age-related wear is visible throughout, including abrasions, dirt accumulation, flaked pigment, small losses to the attributes, and cracks in the wood. Please review the photos carefully for details of condition. Dimensions: approx.
