Topeng, lit. 'mask' is a dramatic form of Indonesian dance in which one or more mask-wearing, ornately costumed performers interpret traditional narratives concerning fabled kings, heroes and myths, accompanied by gamelan or other traditional music instruments Topeng dance is a typical Indonesian dance that can be found in various regions in Indonesia. Topeng dance has the main characteristic that the dancers use masks to cover their faces. The dance will usually be performed by one dancer or a group of dancers. This mask is an old one (pls look at photo of backside) and it has a beautiful patina of the old pant and wood and brass . Some scratches and scufs which is normal for its age and contributes to the authenticity of the item. It has been put in a custom made stand (height on stand 84 cm) and the dimensions of the mask itsel are aprox 46x20x7cm. I personally really like the expression of the mask it seems that under a different angle the expresion is different, pure craftmanship. Unique collectors item!
